Route features
A biking holiday in Lofoten is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Around practically every bend you will experience new, indescribably beautiful scenery. Sun or rain, calm or gale force winds, any type of weather will provide you with truly unique and memorable experiences! As long as you have appropriate clothes and equipment, any trip will be a success.

The route from Svolvær to Å passes through picturesque fishing hamlets and towns, such as Henningsvær (the so-called Venice of Lofoten), Nusfjord, Reine and Sakrisøy.

You bike past Stone Age settlements, old boathouses, one of the world’s northern-most golf course, a doll museum and innumerable art galleries – here you need to have your eyes and ears open and take time to visit some of the many attractions along the way.

A bicycle trip through Lofoten will provide you with memories for a lifetime!

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Day 1 – Friday: Arrival in Bodø. Hurtigruten to Svolvær. Bike to Storvågan – 7 km.

Arrive in Bodø. Please calculate time to pick up rental bikes. Hurtigruten / Coastal Steamer from Bodø 15.00, arrive in Svolvær 21.00. Easy and short bike trip from Svolvær to Storvågan – 7 km. Nyvågar Rorbuhotell (Rorbu Cabin) is idyllically located at the Lofoten Sea, in the historically important area called Storvågan. Comfortable and spacious Rorbu cabins with hotel standard, and a restaurant in squire style.

Day 2: Saturday: Discover the Northern part of Lofoten.

Today you can choose your biking trip. Suggestions: Make a boat trip from Svolvær to see the famous Troll fjord, do some fishing and spot Sea eagles. Visit the fishing village Kabelvåg and the Lofoten Cathedral. Bike trip to the picturesque Fishing Village, Henningsvær (40 km round trip). Visit the museums in Storvågan (not September). Hike one of the peaks close to Storvågan. Bike the northern part of Austvågøy (110 km round trip)

Accommodation in Nyvågar Rorbuhotell (Rorbu Cabins), Stovågan

Day 3: Sunday: Storvågan – Hov / Gimsøya – 34 km.

Easy day trip on with some traffic. Possible detours along the way:
Henningsvær (Picturesque Fishing Village) – 18 km
Brenna (Bike along the fjord/ocean front) – 23 km.
This is the only night you stay at the west coast, so you might see the midnight sun. It is a nice midnight sun tour to hike the top of Hoven (362 m).

Accommodation in lodges at Lofoten Links. Accommodation in new high standard lodges. Each lodge has 3 bedrooms, and each room has a private bathroom and are sound proof – hotel standard. Shared living room with fireplace and kitchen. Outside terrace with a spectacular view to the open sea.

Day 4: Monday: Bike Hov – Leknes – 53 km.

Longer day trip in relatively flat terrain. Possible detours along the way Stamsund and Steine (14 km) or Sennesvika and Ramsvika (12 km)

Accommodation in double room with private bath at Scandic Leknes Lofoten.

Day 5: Tuesday: Discover the central- and seaward side of Lofoten.

Bike to Uttakleiv the most photographed beach in Lofoten. With the horizon open to the west and north, Uttakleiv is a good location to see the Midnight sun (27 km round trip). Bike to Unstad beach, Lofoten’s most popular surfing destinations (42 km round trip). Visit the Lofoten Viking Museum in Borg featuring a copy of the largest Viking-era house ever found (28 km round trip). Bike to Eggum and visit the rocky coastline past the village (50 km round trip).

Day 6: Wednesday: Leknes – Reine – 53 km.

Early breakfast! Bike Leknes – Kremmervika – 12 km / about 1 hour. Bicycle ferry from Kremmervika dep. 10.00, to Nusfjord, arr. 11.00. We recommend spending some time in Nusfjord. This is one of the oldest and best-preserved fishing villages in Lofoten. Bike from Nusfjord to Reine (41 km). You bike most of the distance on E10, with some traffic.

Accommodation at Reine Rorbuer (Rorbu Cabins).

Day 7: Thursday: Discover the Southern part of Lofoten.

Make a day trip to the small village of Å, at the end of the road E10 (20 km round trip). Take a fjord cruise in Kjerkfjorden, walking over to the wonderful beach, Bunesstranda. It is also possible to hike the summit of Helvetestinden (513 m).

Accommodation at Reine Rorbuer (Rorbu Cabins) .

Day 8: Friday: Departure.

Bike from Reine to Moskenes – 5 km. Ferry from Moskenes to Bodø. Departure from Moskenes at 11.00. Arrival in Bodø at 15.00.

This tour starts in Bodo. Overall, this is a rather easy tour. A few short climbs can be conquered easily by pushing the bike. You will cycle on beautiful bike ways and minor roads.

A challenging leisure cycling holiday suitable for experienced cyclists and those comfortable with changing weather conditions, good at map navigation and able to handle cycling in remote locations.
